Staying Safe on the Water

Summer is one of my favorite times of the year. Next to a full day of fresh powder that is! Hey doesn’t that sound nice and cool right about now with all these 100 degree days! But I stray from my point…

Staying safe on the water is important! Boating is usually a very safe and enjoyable summer activity, but without knowing the proper safety precautions, accidents can happen. It is always important to be aware of how to avoid boating injuries while on the water. It is important to make sure the boat is in good condition and you have the proper supplies available in case of an emergency. Some things you should have on your boat include…

Lifejackets (enough for all those onboard)
First Aid Kit
Communication devices such as a VHF Radio and/or cell phone – Do Not rely solely on your cell as we all know that those can be unreliable.
Sound Producing Device such as a horn or whistle
Signaling Device such as flares, a flashlight and even a mirror to use during the day.

Besides having the right equipment on your boat, it is also important to know how to use it all properly. You can learn all these things by taking a boating safety course and practicing with an experienced boater are two ways for boaters to learn safe habits. Whether you are working or enjoying recreational activities on or even near the water, the best water hazard insurance you can have is the ability to swim. I don’t mean that you have to be an olympic swimmer…just have basic knowledge and skills. So maybe a swim class in in order for the family as well. You can never be too safe! And remember never BUI (Boat Under the Influence)!

Here’s to Happy and Safe Boating!

It’s Been A While

I am guessing an apology is necessary. I admit, I am not good at this internet stuff much less blogging. Not to mention that work takes a front row seat and keeps me busy. I will try my best to keep up with this blog stuff.

Let’s just hope all of you are keeping up with your boats!! Don’t let the maintenance slip – it’ll cost you more in the long run! Now is the time to make sure you’ve got a fresh coat of wax on your boat. That way the gel-kote or paint doesn’t dry out!
